Dubai Water Canal was constructed between 2013 and 2017 at a cost of Dh2 billion in the Jumeirah area of ​​Dubai. The 3.2-kilometer canal connects Dubai Creek to the sea via Business Bay effectively turning Bur Dubai Jumeirah 1 and Downtown Dubai into an island.

The project was launched in October 2013. Construction began in 2015 and was completed by November 2016. The master developer is Meydan Group. The project was designed by AE7. From Dubai Water Canal it takes roughly 12 minutes to drive to Dubai Mall, 17 minutes to Palm Jumeirah, 16 minutes to Burj Al Arab and 21 minutes to The Walk JBR. Dubai International Airport (DXB) is roughly 33 minutes' drive and the new Al Maktoum International Airport is roughly 43 minutes' drive. All durations are calculated by Google Maps and assume the fastest route in typical traffic conditions.
